At the ATP Cup earlier in the year, Tennis NSW and the NSW Government were pleased to announce the NSW ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund.
The fund will target infrastructure, facility development and participation programs to support the growth of tennis in the community. The pledge of both the governing body and the NSW government will be to inject more than $5 million into community tennis over a three-year period.
On Thursday 27th August, Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee, Tennis NSW CEO Lawrence Robertson and Wally Masur legend and former US Open singles semi finalist utilised Rushcutters Bay Park Tennis Courts to further announce categories 2 and 3 are open.
Grassroots Tennis will receive a boost of $300,000 from the Fund and it will help clubs, associations, councils and management companies improve their tennis facilities and programs.
Funding will be divided into four categories, each with its own specific objectives, eligibility criteria:
· Major Infrastructure Development
· Facility Development or Upgrades
· Participation Initiatives
· Further Participation Initiatives
Grassroots tennis is all about making a positive community impact and the fund will allow tennis centres like Rushcutters Bay Tennis to further broaden their reach within their local community.
We want to thank the NSW Government and Tennis NSW for their commitment to grassroots funding. SSMG is proud to partner with the City of Sydney in the management of such a wonderful and diverse centre. The facility sponsors two disadvantaged schools on a weekly basis, administers a mental health program and recently hosted an International Women’s Day Influencer Event in collaboration with Tennis NSW.
ATP Cup is a game-changer for tennis in NSW It’s encouraging to think the legacy will enable many new participants pick up a racquet and continue to ensure the growth of tennis participation.
